Woodworking bench with tools in a Cairo furniture atelier
SAAQAH

Furniture formed where Cairo keeps its quiet craft.

Solid timber, honest joints, and rooms that hold desert light without fuss. Built in El Nozha, finished for homes across Egypt.

Why we exist

Not imported. Not hurried. Made on Saaqah Street.

SAAQAH began as a small bench crew shaping dining tables for apartments that face the airport corridor. We still cut, plane, and assemble under one roof - so every piece carries the grain of local decision-making, not a catalog from somewhere else.

The build

From plank to polish in four measured stages

We do not outsource the joints that hold your table together. Selection, joinery, finishing, and fit-out stay inside the atelier - so if something needs adjusting, the same hands that made it can answer.

"We design for Egyptian rooms: hard light at noon, soft evenings, and furniture that does not pretend it was made in another climate."
- Workshop note, SAAQAH atelier

From the journal

Why June boards wait longer

Cairo heat pulls moisture out of timber faster than a calendar expects. Rushing a dining top in early summer is how cupping shows up by September - so we built resting time into the process on purpose.

Materials

Oak, walnut, teak - chosen for this climate

Species decisions here are not mood-board choices. They are about humidity near balconies, west glare on tabletops, and finishes you can repair with a cloth instead of a factory.

Timber & finishes

Selected rooms

Heliopolis, Maadi, New Cairo - with the awkward parts left in

We publish projects that include the stair that blocked a headboard, the finish that failed against tile after sunset, and the table that had to shrink so Friday lunch could still mean walking past chairs.
